2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a distinct vision.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

Below is the entire content from the president's communication:

Team—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a sharper vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to achieve its promise to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. After some time of talks, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having spent the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most popular series in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben soon. We are all excited to continue observing the progress of the game in the time to follow.
